We are an enthusiastic group who enjoy German Bavarian Schuhplattler dance based in Vancouver Canada. Many of our members have been dancing since childhood having toured Germany and Austria in 2000 and 2005. Our drive is to keep Schuhplattler dance alive and have fun doing it.
Schuhplattler is a traditional style of dance from the alpine regions of Germany and Austria. Schuhplattler is best known for the dancing where men wear lederhosen and hit their legs, feet (and sometimes each other!) in time with the music. Many dances tell a story of alpine life and often involve a bit of mischief.
New members are always welcome. Many of our members have a Germanic background, but most are born and raised in Vancouver. No prior Schuhplattler experience is required, just a sense of rhythm, willingness to work up a sweat, and the ability to laugh at yourself.
Previously based out of the Vancouver Alpen Club, we practice most Wednesdays at 7:30pm, and are currently practicing at the Polish Zgoda Friendship Society.
